Meet Liberty + Vanessa

Liberty and Vanessa Seekee are part of a 5th generation Torres Strait Family, with Liberty’s family being merchants, Sea Captains and Pearl Divers. Vanessa has been in the Torres Strait since 1994, when she arrived in the area as a teacher, and began research into the regions World War II history.

In 2005, Vanessa was awarded the OAM (Order of Australia Medal) for services to the World War II veterans of Torres Strait. The same year she completed her Masters in the history of the World War II airbase at Horn Island, Torres Strait.

With over 25yrs experience, they are passionate about providing guests with the best experience possible. They have designed a variety of day and overnight packages and experiences which can be completely tailored to each group’s requirements.

When not doing tours, the couple are dedicated to assisting the veteran and civilian community. They assist with research for new memorials, plaques, exhibitions, military commemorative events, and act as advocates for veterans.

They organise annual veteran reunions to Torres Strait and conduct specialised history tours to places of interest.  Their largest current project is the WW2 Torres Strait Conservation Project, which is seeing WW2 sites in the area sensitively conserved so that generations to come will enjoy and learn from them.  The most recent reunion saw a 10-tonne artillery piece conserved and installed in the gun pit it was in during WW2.
